Citizen volunteer boards and commissions help our Village plan for the future, review development proposals, and provide community input on important local issues. These groups are made up of residents who serve the community by sharing their experience, ideas, and perspectives. Serving on a board or commission is a great way to get involved in local government and help shape the future of Alexandria.

Current Boards & Commissions
Planning & Zoning Commission
Alexandria's Planning & Zoning Commission manages local growth by enforcing the village's zoning codes. The Commission reviews land-use proposals, updates zoning maps, and makes recommendations to the Village Council regarding property development, building rules, and permitted land uses. The commission’s primary responsibilities include:
Zoning Changes: Reviewing requests to rezone specific properties (e.g., from residential to commercial) and recommending approval or denial to the Village Council.
Long-Range Planning: Updating and managing the village's comprehensive land-use plans to control future growth and development.
Code Updates: Creating or updating regulations for things like building heights, lot sizes, setbacks, and commercial/residential signage.
Community Compatibility: Ensuring that new developments do not negatively impact neighboring properties, infrastructure, or the character of the community.
The Alexandria Planning & Zoning Commission meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the Village Office. Current members are:

Jeannette Gunn - term expires 12/31/2027

Park Board
The Alexandria Park Board manages and oversees the maintenance of Parker Community Park. The volunteer board directs the upkeep of park facilities, grounds, trees, and playground equipment, while also planning for future improvements and facility rentals. Specific duties of the Alexandria Park Board include:
Maintenance & Repair: Directing the construction and upkeep of park features, including ball fields, shelter houses, and playground structures.
Planning: Creating and executing plans for future park uses and structural additions.
Facility Use: Overseeing the rules for facility or grounds reservations (handled in coordination with the Village Administrator).
The Park Board meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Office. Current members are:

Museum Board
The Alexandria Museum Board operates and manages the Alexandria Museum, housed in the pre-1860 former Laycock home on West Main Street. Volunteers are responsible for preserving local artifacts, curating exhibits, and answering inquiries about the history of Alexandria and St. Albans Township. Members of the Museum Board also serve as hands-on caretakers for the facility. Their day-to-day and administrative duties include:
Collection Preservation: Managing and safeguarding historical artifacts—such as prehistoric stone tools, local clothing, and artwork—donated by the community.
Public Services: Operating the museum, leading guided tours for groups, and providing historical research for the public.
Public Meetings: Holding monthly meetings to plan museum activities, discuss exhibits, and coordinate with the village.
The Park Board meets on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Museum. Current members are:
